About Us

The Khair Welfare Association was officially founded on August 28, 2019, driven by a unified vision to serve vulnerable populations within Grandpass (Colombo 14) and the broader Colombo district.

What began as a localized effort to address systemic gaps in emergency funeral services and food insecurity has evolved through years of challenges and triumphs. Navigating intense financial constraints, sudden regional disasters, and global pandemics, our association has grown into a highly trusted, structurally disciplined force for social good.

Vision & Mission

Our Mission: To serve humanity through funeral services, disaster relief, food distribution, healthcare support, and community-building initiatives, guided by the values of kindness, faith, and responsibility.

Our Vision: To build a compassionate and empowered society where no one is left behind, and every individual receives the support and dignity they deserve.

What We Do

Janaza (Funeral) Services

Our Janaza Services form the foundational core of our humanitarian mission. Created to assist families struggling under crippling financial strain and to care for those who pass away with no one to claim them, we ensure every individual receives a dignified burial in strict accordance with Islamic principles.

Handling Unclaimed Bodies

In cases of family abandonment or legal documentation absence, we coordinate with hospitals and authorities to secure legal clearance, perform ritual washing (Ghusl), shrouding (Kafan), and arrange a respectful burial.

Financial & Logistical Aid

For families unable to manage unexpected funeral expenditures, we cover all primary operational costs including burial plots, transport vehicles, and funeral prayers.

Community Education

We actively demystify funeral management by conducting structured educational seminars on proper procedures for ritual cleansing and burial guidelines to empower everyday citizens.

Humanitarian Aid & Crisis Relief

  • Khair Ramadan Relief (KRR): Launched in 2020, this program distributes carefully packaged food parcels to over 300 families in the Molawatta area annually.
  • Flood Disaster Response: Rapid-response deployment mobilizing 3,800 complete food packages to severely hit sectors, including Maligawatta, Wellampitiya, Mabola, and Kotikawatta.
  • COVID-19 Economic Crisis Assistance: Mass distribution of essential nutritional packs and over 300KG of doorstep-delivered life-saving medications via WhatsApp prescription routing.
